Designer digs: Jean-Michel Cazabat in his just-opened NYC flagship store.

His sexy shoes have been a must-have for the 11 years he’s been in business, but until October 12, Jean-Michel Cazabat’s collection had nowhere to call home.

No longer: the French designer opened a flagship store—his first standalone shop in the world!—on Bleecker Street in NYC's West Village with a cocktail fete that drew the likes of Naeem and Ranjana Khan, Bergdorf Goodman’s Linda Fargo, Nicole Miller, and Shala Monroque.

“For such a long time I’ve tried to open in New York,” Cazabat, who lives and works in New York, told FashionEtc as guests mingled over pink champagne. “It’s my city, you know? I used to live two blocks away, at Waverly and 10th. I moved to Soho a while ago, but to be back in the neighborhood is so nice. It’s fantastic.”

The store, on the corner of Bleecker and West 10th Street, is airy and open, with shoes lining the walls—all with Cazabat’s signature graphic heart on the sole. (The plush shoe shapers that come with each pair are also heart shaped). It’s a symbol that’s close to Cazabat’s, well, heart.

“[It’s] because of my tattoo,” he explained, pulling aside his shirt to reveal the image inked on his chest. “I’ve had the tattoo for a long time; I have a lot of tattoos. Tattoo is like the modern art of today!”

We think we’ll just stick to the shoes, thanks.
