“We all know how hard it is to get an actor to pay for a meal in this town,” joked filmmaker Paul Haggis as he rallied bidders at the January 14 Save the Children and Artists for Peace and Justice fund-raiser.
The event, hosted by Bulgari and held at the Beverly Hills home of billionaire Ron Burkle, raised over $200,000 in support of educating children around the world.
In 2009, Bulgari raised 9 million euros for Save the Children and has continued to stir up funds for computers, vocational training, art, and reading in the United States, the Sudan, Uganda, Haiti, Indonesia and the Congo.
Nicola Bulgari and CEO Francesco Trapani joined co-host/Save the Children VP Mark Shriver (who reluctantly took no less than $15,000 to “drop the F-bomb” for the good cause) in welcoming Hollywood’s elite.
L.A. chef Suzanne Goin provided a tasty menu that included Alaskan cod with kabocha puree (amazing squash, in layman terms), and mini homemade Snickers bars—which all the ladies pretended not to pick at.

Host committee member Jason Lewis of Sex and the City fame admits that “one of the greatest benefits of being a celebrity is using it for a good cause.” He teamed with Bulgari in 2009 for a ring the brand created to raise funds for the foundation.
Actress Malin Akerman (in J. Mendel) “took art classes all through high school” and understands the benefits of a quality education. Meanwhile, True Grit star Josh Brolin entertained the crowd with tales from his work with Save the Children.
The night ended with partygoers, including Milla Jovovich (in a Pucci dress and Rodarte sweater), dancing to hits by special guest Ricky Martin.
