After a month of rumors about who would take over for Nicolas Ghesquière at Balenciaga, news finally broke on Friday that Alexander Wang scored the coveted spot as the brand's new creative director.
An announcement released today from the French fashion house confirmed that not only will Alexander Wang be headed to Balenciaga, but he will continue to design for his eponymous label.
"The Balenciaga fashion house and its staff are proud to welcome Alexander Wang, whose proven talent, modernity and individual and cosmopolitan vision of design will naturally embrace and enrich the unique heritage of this fashion house which will soon be one hundred years old," said Balenciaga CEO and president Isabelle Guichot.
“I am deeply honored to embark on this new role for a brand and house that I have such great admiration and respect for,” Wang said in the release.
The 28-year-old New York-based designer will certainly have a lot on his plate, but if anyone can rise to the occasion, we have faith in Mr. Alexander Wang and his unique sports-meets-luxury design talent.
