Sheer madness: A new study reveals that see-through blouses are a major distraction at work

Is it hot in here, or is it just your outfit?

A poll of 1,200 people claims that women dress too provocatively for work during the sizzling summer months, the Daily Express reports.

U.K. comparison Web site uSwitchforbusiness.com found that 53 percent of respondents say females sport inappropriate attire to beat the rising heat, while only three in 10 said the same of men.

Nearly one in three men admitted that scantily clad female co-workers drove them to distraction at work (oh, sure, blame us!), with sheer blouses being the biggest style complaint.

For men, 74 percent of those polled had a bone to pick with flip-flops, while 15 percent considered it a faux pas for a man to remove his tie during the summer.

Apparently dressing too sexy or casually can affect your workplace reputation. Nearly three in 10 employees expressed concern that a co-worker's style gave their business a bad image, while almost half said they were embarrassed by a colleague's saucy dress sense.

"Sexy summer dressing is getting workers hot under the collar," uSwitchforbusiness spokesman James Constant told the paper. “Some workers will try to get away with wearing as few clothes as possible. But while they are happy flashing the flesh, their colleagues are getting shirty about their dress sense.

“Nobody wants a return to strict, inflexible, formal dress at work. But likewise no one wants to see employees embarrassed or distracted. It’s about the right balance. A dress code that suits your business can help keep staff happy and professional and help your business run smoothly even in the summer heat.”

And, while you're at it, it's probably best to lay off the hot pants when you're headed to the airport ... just in case.

Meanwhile, a Japanese firm is asking its employees to get the same haircut.
