Scout Master Ward (Edward Norton) and the Khaki Scouts
Precocious younguns are a cinematic staple in Anderson’s oeuvre, and this crop of Khaki Scouts, led by Scout Master Ward, is an articulately wardrobed example. Walicka Maimone and her department ultimately created around 350 Scout costumes, tackling every piece from the knee socks to insignia patches. Bill Murray’s character, Suzy’s dejected father, heatedly refers to them as “beige lunatics” during the search for Suzy and Sam, which nearly devolves into a “Lord of the Flies” situation, but never has childhood violence been so adorable.
