OVERALL TAKEAWAY: Nicolas Ghesquière proves, yet again, that he is in a class all his own.
His collection for Balenciaga this season showed just enough skin to clearly illustrate a sexy Parisian element without giving too much away; it pushed the envelope and left the audience with a lasting impression.
The designer paired cut outs with box-cut tops and circular-cut bottoms giving us a true lesson in geometry. Tweed separates with edgy cuts made up most two-piece combinations, though the collection wasn't without the Spring 2013 leather trend (and we'll gladly sweat while wearing Balenciaga next summer).

Smart suits with loose jackets brought an 80s element to the collection with muted colors, followed by lace straight-cut dresses that gave the runway a twinge of vintage.
The most interesting elements about this collection came in the detailing, which we've grown to expect from Ghesquière. Cuts paired with unconventional textiles, slits along the knee with pops of color under pleats, and all kinds of unexpected flounces gave each look a statement that solidified the inspiration behind the collection.
This season the Balenciaga girl is sexy but in a way that makes you want to know more about her.
