OVERALL TAKEAWAY: "The Proenza girl isn't the sort of girl who goes home to bed at 9 o'clock," Fekkai hair stylist Paul Hanlon said backstage. "She's a bit rebellious, she's got an attitude, she's messy and rough." Though that was the inspiration for Hanlon's hair for Proenza Schouler's show, it was no doubt the focus for designer's Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez's Spring 2013 collection.
Techno orange, blue, and green leathers were patch-worked together in architecturally structured skirts, dresses, and motorcycle-inspired jackets. Digital photo prints of protestors, swimming pools, and waterfalls were laid atop newly structured fit-n-flare dresses. Perforated leather, reptilian prints, and studs and grommets were aplenty; and just as we were thinking this collection was as far from spring as it could be, the Proenza boys sent out feminine printed chiffon dresses that added a necessary lightness but retained the strength seen on the other bulkier pieces.
Hernandez and McCollough also toyed around with shape and silhouette — something they've been experimenting with for a few seasons now. Though waist and hemlines were dropped and jackets sat further away from the body, there was still an ever-present female shape to each look.
