Choosing the Perfect Prom Outfit for Guys

Prom is always something to look forward to, especially after you’ve worked hard to get through the term. But, for most young men, there’s a mounting pressure to get everything just right. The prom
outfit is one factor that usually causes jitters, and with so many options to choose from, it’s easy to get unnecessarily stressed and overwhelmed. But, getting ready for prom should be fun – so keep these
tips in mind to make sure that you are one of the best-looking and best-dressed guys on the night.

#1. Keep it Classic and Timeless:

When it comes to choosing your prom outfit, you really can’t go wrong with a classic, timeless look. Don’t try and do anything too unusual or flash or you’ll run the risk of standing out for the wrong reasons. And at the same time, try to avoid anything too gaudy or cheap; especially anything that
comes in a shiny, bright-colored plasticky fabric. Instead, stick to timeless black and white and add
just a few tasteful touches of color here and there to stand out from the crowd. Whether you choose a regular suit and tie or a tuxedo is completely down to you and how you want to look on the night. We’d recommend visiting Boys Suits if you want to browse a wide range of dress pants, jackets, shirts, ties
and accessories. If you’re looking to save some money, they have a clearance on right now where you could grab a bargain.

#2. Avoid Matching Outfits:

Matching outfits with your date might seem like a cute idea at the time but try not to get talked into it. Instead, try and allow for a little complementing contrast between outfits for the two of you. For example, if your date is wearing a pink dress, then you could accessorize your suit with a pink boutonniere flower or pocket handkerchief will do just the trick.

#3. Consider a Hired Suit:

If you’re going to go all out and wear a tux to prom, then consider hiring your suit – after all, you’re probably still growing and don’t want to invest a lot of money into an outfit that you’re only going to wear once, or will have to pay to be altered in order to wear it in the future. However, when you hire a suit, be sure to go to a reputable tailor who can find you a well-fitted suit to wear; there will be cheaper, tempting options but bear in mind that a bad fit could make even the nicest of suits look awful on you.

#4. Wearing a Different Color:

Ok, so black is a classic choice for your prom suit – but if you don’t like the color, or if it’s going to
clash with your prom date’s outfit, then you might want to consider some alternatives. Navy blue is a nice choice; it’s still a classic color for a suit, but double check what your date is wearing first – if they are wearing black, it will clash, but it’ll look great alongside her dress if she’s wearing white, pink, or
red, for example. There are several other colors that you might want to consider wearing – a white suit can make you stand out from the crowd or you might want to opt for a suave grey. If you want to be
bold and wear an unusual color such as maroon, for example, check with your date first to make sure that the outfits won’t clash.

#5. Accessorizing Your Suit:

Once you’ve found the perfect suit to wear to prom, it’s time to start thinking about accessorizing it. Wear polished dress shoes; if you already own a pair then give them a quick shine and polish beforehand, or you could rent some to go along with your tux. Go for a pair of shoes that work well
with the color of your suit; you can usually find dress shoes in a selection of black, navy, brown or
white. If you’re wearing a colored suit, pick a shoe color that will highlight it. Cuff links are another
great accessory to add; whilst you don’t have to wear them, they will add some sophistication and a
little sparkle to your look. Choose cuff links that are both a material and color that will match your outfit; gold or sterling silver are usually safe choices and will go with pretty much anything that you decide to wear.

#6. Stay True to Yourself:

Whilst classic and timeless outfit options are usually a safe choice for prom, there’s a lot to be said for staying true to yourself, too. Don’t pressure yourself into wearing something that you’d never normally put on or feel uncomfortable in, just for the sake of one night at prom. If you want to do something slightly different with your outfit, go for a different color to black or wear a funky patterned tie that you love; remember that there’s nothing wrong with all of that – if it’s exactly what you want to wear.
