Resort 2012: Burberry Prorsum

Burberry Prorsum showed its resort 2012 collection (or pre spring, or cruise—really, there are a million names for one wee season) today in its New York headquarters. The collection was colorful—as expected—but also quite playful.

The traditional Burberry silhouette—trenchcoats (both fitted and double breasted), parkas, pencil skirts, and dresses—were given a new look for the season, courtesy of fabrics, prints, and colors.

"We have taken our icons and played with texture to personalize and give them a real character and charm using color to highlight the intricate detail that goes in to crafting them,'' Christopher Bailey, Burberry Chief Creative Officer, said in an email statement.

What does all this mean? Think raffia pencil skirts and a bead embellished trenches (in blue suedes), and embroidered hems in bright colors. Dresses are fitted and sexy, and the accessories are as bold and bright as the clothes. Raffia clutches, beaded wristlets, layers and layers of colorful beaded necklaces, all bringing to mind a trip to a far flung place. And I won't lie: I'm fascinated by the raffia skirt (shown here)—the texture is incredible.
