Market Watch: Gucci

Gucci 1921 New Jackie bag

Going to Gucci's showroom and playing with the merchandise is like a childhood dream come true. Who wouldn't want to ogle the accessories and clothes up close and in person?

The Fall 2011 offerings feature reissued and retro-inspired pieces. I'm seriously coveting the 1921 New Jackie bag ($3,250), which was produced in honor of the Italian brand's 90th anniversary. I'm a sucker for good leather, and this one comes in a really rich burgundy—with tassels (on trend!).

Bamboo has been a major element in Gucci bags—the handles are nearing an iconic status. So it was no surprise to see a bamboo-inspired bangle in 18k gold ($2,690). What was surprising was that the bracelet is made with springs, so it can fit any hand or wrist. (It also comes in a ring.)

But what I really went gaga over was the baby clothes. Yes, Gucci does kiddie wear, and it's adorable. The Hooded Montgomery Baby Coat in camel ($475) is the cutest thing I've ever seen. I'm imagining my nephew in it already, but really, if anyone gets a Gucci gift from me, it will have to be me.
