Market Watch: Atelier Swarovski

Mark Fast Christopher Kane jewelry

There's no better way to start a cold, rainy morning than by heading to Bendel's and seeing jewelry by Prabal Gurung, Mark Fast, Joseph Altuzarra, Christopher Kane, and other designers. No, they haven't launched their own bauble lines—yet. They've teamed up with Atelier Swarovski for a sparkly collection of rings, necklaces, bracelets and more.

To say that each item was better than the one before is an understatement. I wanted almost every piece, and that's rare for me. Jewelry is very personal, and you have to find the right item that calls to you. Well, this entire collection was screaming out to me. My poor bank account.

Christopher Kane's ropelike necklaces in a variety of finishes are such a perfect go-to look. Prabal Gurung's lacquered cuffs and rings were edgy but stunning.

Mark Fast used rose gold and opted for a vintage theme—the collection was based on his grandmother's jewelry. "It's about holding on to something precious," he told me at the preview. His jewelry had actual crystal shapes, a departure for Swarovski. "There's this hard edge to the crystal, very raw, very archaic, mixed with a little bit of softness and sensitivity and romanticism, so it's the dichotomy of the two together."

The most eye-catching pieces were from architectural team Hariri & Hariri. Big is an understatement. Their jewels were giant, and I loved that. Gisue Hariri said that while in Houston, her large baubles were a huge hit. Well, everything is bigger in Texas …

The jewelry is available at Henri Bendel from March 22-28 and in Swarovski stores come April.
