Market Watch: Norman Ambrose

Norman Ambrose gray lamb suede and dyed blue fox coat

Norman Ambrose is someone you should know, especially if you live on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and have the means to afford higher-end togs. His clothes are exquisite, made from the most luxurious fabrics he can find (with price tags to match).

The young designer just débuted his first collection this past Fashion Week, and had my schedule permitted I'd have been there. Trust me when I say I won't miss the next one.

In a season full of furs, his are above and beyond. I couldn't stop touching the sheared mink and Russian sable ($33,000). It's an overly decadent wish to want a duvet cover made from the same materials—if Donald Trump's buying, perhaps.

Ambrose's gray lamb suede and dyed blue fox coat ($7,425) is just as lavish but doesn't cost as much as a Mercedes. All these coats make me wish it was Fall again, without the awful weather.

Both coats are available at Saks Fifth Avenue Fur Salons nationwide and Holt Renfrew in Canada come September.
