Around Town: Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries Toast New York

The royal couple finally arrived in New York! Yes, Kim Kardashian and her new husband, Kris Humphries, fresh off their European honeymoon, are in town, and with typical Kardashian understatement, held court at a party for a thousand or so friends on Wednesday, complete with sparklers, a towering cake, and champers all around.

So how is married life going? “Well, it’s been a week. It doesn’t really feel much different,” said Kim on the red carpet at Capitale. “I love New York. It’s fun and exciting, and there’s so much going on here,” she added.

Publisher Jason Binn and party planner Colin Cowie decided to throw the glitzy bash to welcome the newlyweds to the city. But it’s not all fun and games; Kim and sister Kourtney are back to work, filming season two of their reality show Kourtney & Kim Take New York.

Kim chose Victoria Beckham, and Kourtney was in Ted Baker for the party, both English designers. (Just like the royals!) Lorraine Schwartz said that the jewelry for Kim’s wedding, thankfully, all stayed intact. “Her earrings were three earrings in one; the tops were eight carats in each ear, the bottoms were 20 carats each, so it was 56 carats total,” Schwartz explained. “And then we had another stone put in the middle, so she could have three, and I was afraid I would get one piece missing or something not there. But it all came back perfectly.”

Inside the party, Kim and family toasted their guests from way up on a parapet (just like the royals!) “Kourtney and I want to say the Kardashians are here in New York! So let’s party New York!” And with that, the music got loud, and scantily-clad waitresses descended the stairs carrying Champagne bottles lit with sparklers. Then came a giant cake inscribed, “Welcome to New York Kim and Kris”; the happy couple lit sparklers stuck in the top.

Helping to welcome the Kardashians to the Big Apple were La La Anthony, Lance Bass, Tinsley Mortimer, Naeem Khan, Kyle MacLachlan, and Paul Shaffer.

Meanwhile, at Monday’s launch of Charlotte Ronson’s Sephora beauty line, people were buzzing about a different wedding. The designer’s brother, Mark Ronson, will marry Josephine de la Baume in France this weekend, so she’s fitting in the trip abroad while putting the finishing touches on her runway show. “I have to go there on Thursday, so we have to kind of pack a lot in between this week and next week,” Ronson said.

Mother of the groom Ann Dexter-Jones has four dresses for the wedding. “I’m wearing Oscar de la Renta for the civil ceremony, a short, very Audrey Hepburn dress in pale green,” she said at the Sephora dinner at Hotel Chantelle. “Then I’m going to be wearing a silver Rochas for the Friday night, and I’m wearing Erdem, the English designer, for the wedding.” And just in case, Dexter-Jones has a backup Zac Posen. “I haven’t been to a wedding in Provence, so I’m going to have to get the Provence feel for which one. We’re going to toss them up on the day to see which it is.”

Ronson’s Sephora products are named for friends and family, many of whom were at the party, including Drea de Matteo, Dani Stahl and Shoshanna Lonstein Gruss.
