Emma Watson Covers Vogue
We’re not in Hogwarts anymore.
Wearing a paillette Prada dress, dramatic, slicked-back hair, and her lips painted a va-va-vamp red, Emma Watson proves she’s no longer Harry Potter’s little girl on the July cover of Vogue.
“I have lived in a complete bubble,” admits the 21-year-old actress, who has played good witch Hermione Granger in the blockbuster fantasy film series since 2001. “They found me and picked me for the part. And now I’m desperately trying to find my way through it.”
She’s certainly off to a good start: With Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 wrapping up the movie franchise in July, the Brown University dropout is looking forward to testing her acting chops by playing a not-so-innocent teen in the upcoming The Perks of Being a Wall Flower, and has already started dabbling in the worlds of beauty and fashion.
Besides appearing in a Burberry campaign, the pixie-haired Brit has designed three organic clothing collections for People Tree. “It was such hard work,” says Watson. “I didn’t realize what I was taking on. I was doing 12-hour days on Harry Potter and then coming home to work for two more hours, sizing and cutting designs.”
More recently, Alberta Ferretti approached her about collaborating on the eco-friendly line Pure Threads, and, Watson tells the magazine, “I practically cried.”

For her Mario Testino–shot Vogue portfolio, the glam gamine struck a series of spellbinding poses in a Calvin Klein Collection metallic shift; a Tom Ford gold chain-mail top paired with an Undercover brass feather skirt; a bejeweled Dolce & Gabbana minidress; and a nude-and-gold Aquilano.Rimondi dress with Alexander McQueen jewel-encrusted thigh-high boots.
Off the set, the English star prefers edgy looks by her fellow countrymen, such as designers Hakaan Yildirim and Erdem Moralioglu. “I thought, If people are going to write about what I’m wearing, then I would wear young British designers who need the publicity,” she says.
In April, Watson signed on as the face of Lancôme’s Trésor Midnight Rose fragrance. Her passion for beauty and cosmetics extends far back to the early Harry Potter films, where she would spend hours experimenting with makeup artist Amanda Knight’s products.
“That was my playground,” she says of the makeup trailer. “I would sit and play with lipsticks, foundations, and eye shadows; and every now and then Amanda would let me do the extras’ face paint for the Quidditch matches.”
Hmm … wonder if she used a broomstick as a brush?
